A CONVERSATION WITH MARA SUNDWALL
WHY TRACKING DAILY WINS TRANSFORMS YOUR LIFE: MARA SUNDWALL’S PROVEN METHOD FOR GROWTH

I learned recently that most people use the term “alpha male/female” incorrectly.
The man who originally coined the term was a primatologist who studied how animals behaved.
During his studies, he noticed that the leaders were
- Leading the pack
- Aggressive
- Dominant
“When Wall Street heard of this concept, they immediately started using it to describe the type of successful person who would force themselves to the top to get what they wanted.”
However, the primatologist noticed something that the Wall Street definition was missing:
He found that the alpha was often the leader through empathy and example.
They looked out for the little guys.
They fought off attackers to protect their community’s well-being—not so they could stay the leader.
The other animals didn’t follow them out of fear or awe—they followed the alpha because they trusted him or her.
My friend Mara Sundwall shared this interesting information with me during our podcast together.
Mara is a life coach who has mentored and helped many of my close friends, including my wife and daughter.
In a world where leadership is seen as a position of dominance and power, Mara is the perfect example of someone who leads through empathy. You could say she’s a true alpha.
